Monterey, CA – A 2025 Ford Mustang GT Premium slammed the wall at Laguna Seca during a track day Saturday after its transmission mount shattered mid-corner at 85 mph. The driver walked away unhurt, but the car took heavy front-end damage. Ford has opened a probe into early 2025 builds and is prepping possible recall paperwork.
Car Specs
· 2025 Mustang GT Premium
· 5.0L Coyote V8, 480 hp
· 10-speed automatic
· Transmission mount: OEM FR3Z-6068-A, built in Mexico
Track Incident The driver entered Turn 11 flat-out when a sharp “CLUNK” rang out. The drivetrain lurched, the transmission sagged 1–2 inches, and the rear end broke loose. A quick lift off the throttle kept the car from barrel-rolling; it still kissed the barrier driver-side first.
Post-Crash Inspection Dealership techs reported:
· Rubber bushing torn to ribbons
· Steel bracket split clean through
Blame fell on 110°F track temps and 418 lb-ft of torque overwhelming the new “eco-friendly” compound—noticeably softer than the 2024 recipe.
Pattern of Failures Two other track-day Mustangs bit it this summer:
· August, Sonoma Raceway: EcoBoost model spun into the gravel trap after mount let go under hard downshift.
· July, VIR: GT swapped ends under trail-braking, tagged the wall.
NHTSA Watch List Owners flag the same early clues:
· Clunk on Park-to-Drive
· Buzz at wide-open throttle
· Vague, floaty shifter
· Harsh or lazy shifts
Agency logs show more than 15 low-speed crashes tied to failing mounts.
Ford says it’s pulling affected cars into dealers for free checks and swaps while the recall decision hangs.
